Our Story
Everyone has memories growing up around their kitchen table – whether it was with family and friends laughing about the good times or thinking about the sad times, everyone has had a moment at their kitchen table; and where there is a kitchen table, there is food.
Our goal at Around the Table is to help you make memories without having to slave away in the kitchen. Whether it’s a birthday cake for a loved one, cupcakes to celebrate a job promotion or cookie sandwiches for a good report card, we strive to make your memory a little sweeter than it already is!
Around the Table started as a fun side job in our very first home as a married couple. When I, Betsy, decided to make this my career, we knew we needed to have a separate (dog free) kitchen in order to be a certified bakery. We decided to take the next step in purchasing a new home and remodel the detached garage into what is today, a commercial grade kitchen. We have since expanded to both sides of the garage as well as the upstairs, which is now our office and consultation room. Our entire life changed in the matter of six months, but it is a change that we are so thankful we made.

I have enjoyed baking since I was a little girl. I have countless memories baking with my mom for birthdays, holidays and “just because” days. A few years ago, my best friend had a birthday party and I volunteered to make her cake. I picked out one of the most difficult cakes I could find and decided to tackle it. Little did I know this would take me back and unveil my love for designing and baking cakes.
While still working a daytime job, I decided to start taking on orders. With much success, I turned my little hobby into a business of my dreams. In 2020, I was faced with two decisions – to continue my daytime job but be forced to move departments or take a leap of faith and decide to go full time with the bakery. Needless to say, taking that leap of faith and turning the bakery into a career is still the best decision I ever made. Without a doubt, I am doing exactly what the Lord has blessed me with!

Ever since I was a kid, I have always had a love for food and cooking. After working in restaurants since I was a teenager, I decided to go to Culinary School where I earned a degree to continue my culinary journey. While being the Executive Chef at Barton College, I saw my wife turn her passions into her career and I witnessed her build a successful business that was hers.
Let’s be honest – baking was never something I saw in my cards; however, I was an Executive Chef by day and then came home to assist in the bakery at night. Along the way, I realized that baking wasn’t so bad afterall. We started brainstorming ways where I had more involvement in the bakery. After months of praying and planning, I made the decision to leave the job as Executive Chef where I had worked towards for almost ten years, to join my wife in the bakery to continue to grow our business. In conclusion, in case you were wondering, I enjoy baking more now than I ever did before.
